Prosser Treehouse | Truckee, CA
Set within a grove of lodgepole pines in Truckee, this treehouse was designed as a place for our client’s grandchildren to return to year after year. Five mature trees shaped the footprint of the build, creating a natural framework that allowed the structure to move through the landscape rather than compete with it. Truckee’s climate added another layer to the design. The treehouse was carefully engineered for significant snow loads, balancing structural performance with a sense of lightness, play, and connection to the forest.
Douglas fir, cedar, and redwood were used throughout, bringing warmth and texture to the structure. Inside, a cozy loft creates a quiet retreat, while a large netted lounging area opens the space up for climbing, gathering, and taking in the trees from above. A substantial solid Douglas fir staircase became one of the defining details of the build, both functional and beautifully crafted. The exposed wood was finished with Australian Timber Oil to deepen the natural character of the cedar and bring richness to the redwood decking without masking the grain.
This was a deeply rewarding two-month build, made even more meaningful by the setting and the family it was created for. We’re grateful to Kyle Lovett, Brian, Katie Buell, and Rob Kyte for the craftsmanship and care they brought to the project.
