Who We Are

Dream Builders, Rooted in Craft

Good Nature Treehouse exists to build custom treehouses, treehomes, and tree-based structures for people with big dreams — and to contribute to the collective need for more treehouses on this planet. We work nationally, intentionally growing a portfolio of projects rooted in artistry, craftsmanship, and deep respect for trees.

Born of a childhood dream.

Chris Henkel | Founder & Treehouse Builder

My connection to treehouses started early. As a kid, stories like Andrew Henry’s Meadow and films like Swiss Family Robinson sparked an imagination that never really let go. By the time I was eight, I knew that being up in the trees felt more natural to me than anything else.

At nineteen, I began my career as an arborist with The Canopy Crew, a Cincinnati-based company led by renowned treehouse builder Django Kroner. That apprenticeship took me across Ohio, Kentucky, and North Carolina and became the foundation for my work today — blending arboriculture, climbing, and creative building in living systems.

For the past nine years, I’ve worked as a climbing arborist in tree canopies around the country. In 2019, I became an ISA Certified Arborist and built my first professional treehouse. Since then, Good Nature Treehouse has grown into a body of work rooted in craft, imagination, and respect for trees.

Our Philosophy

Good Nature Treehouse is the culmination of my passions — climbing, building, and designing spaces that bring people closer to the trees.

I want Good Nature Treehouse to be known alongside the most respected treehouse builders in the country — artists just as much as builders. Passion is a core value here. I believe the world can never have enough treehouses, and every project is an opportunity to design something imaginative, refined, and far from ordinary.

Whenever possible, we source materials locally — partnering with nearby mills to use locally milled hardwoods and non-toxic materials. This approach supports local communities and creates play surfaces that feel better, last longer, and are safer for kids.
